The following definitions are used in OCHART Report Section 8 - Question 2: HIV clinical services provided to clients.
Diagnostic Services
Intake and/or Assessment: Gathering demographic/medical/social/other information about the client to help identify client needs. Intake and assessment procedures may differ at each HIV clinic.
HIV Treatment & Care Support
Specialty Care: Medical care provided by the infectious disease specialists that supports the treatment and management of infectious diseases, including HIV, HCV, STIs and other blood-borne pathogens.
Treatment Information: Providing information on highly-active anti-retroviral therapy for managing HIV infection. This can include a discussion with a nurse, doctor or pharmacist.
Blood work/Lab Test: This is specific to managing HIV infection, such as blood tests for viral load, CD4s, and genotyping.
Adherence support: Providing information and supports related to addressing client challenges to adhering to HIV medications. This can include a discussion with a nurse, doctor or pharmacist.
Application Support: Includes support to complete forms such as EAP, Trillium as well as assisting clients with forms completion such as health card, ODSP, OW, etc.
Primary Care: Medical care provided by a primary or infectious disease doctor that supports the primary
health care needs of the patient.
Allied Health Services
Pharmacy Services: Providing information and supports related to understanding medication and treatment needs
Nutritional Services: Providing information and supports related to understanding and meeting nutritional needs.
Health Promotion: Providing information and supports related to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Mental Health Services: Provision of psychiatric assessment or care, or other mental health except as outlined in Care Linkages section.
Addiction Services: Provision of addiction services except as outlined in Care Linkages section. Social Work/Counselling/Support Includes ‘one-on-one’ session with a client and/or client’s family/partner/friend to talk about anything not covered in another activity. This could include psycho-social support, coping with HIV and HIV-related stigma, HIV disclosure, and so on. This may happen in person or over the phone.
Sexual & Reproductive Health
Pre/post Test Counselling: Counselling that is provided to individuals who are considering testing for HIV, HCV, STIs or other blood-borne pathogens or who have begun the testing process. This can also include the actual testing.
Sexual Health Services: Providing information and supports related to maintaining a healthy sex life, including POZ prevention.
Reproductive Health Services: Providing information, supports and referrals related to pregnancy planning and care.
